Do I need to buy any hardware for face recognition attendance?

No hardware at all. Face recognition runs on the employee's own Android smartphone. There's no biometric terminal, no fingerprint scanner, and no tablet to mount at the entrance.

How does TheCheckIn prevent employees from using a photo to check in?

Things people ask before switching from biometric machines.

Minor appearance changes — glasses on, glasses off, beard growth, different hairstyle — don't affect recognition accuracy. The app uses facial structure, not exact pixel matching. If someone makes a drastic change (e.g. grows a full beard from scratch), the employee can re-register their face in under a minute.

The face matching itself happens on the device. However, the check-in record needs to sync to the server to appear on the admin dashboard. If the employee is offline at check-in, the record will sync automatically once their phone reconnects to WiFi or mobile data.

Face recognition uses on-device processing. The registered face data stays on the employee's smartphone — raw face images are not sent to or stored on TheCheckIn servers. The only data we store is the attendance record (employee, time, location). Face data belongs to your company and is never shared with third parties.
